In general, Makoto’s lack of a personality or character arc is why I disliked him. He was just Hope personified, which is cool, but I like protagonists with personalities. Hajime’s character arc, of the unconfident person believing in themselves, might be cliched, but he has more of a personality than Makoto, has a character arc and felt more human, so that’s why I choose Hajime as the better protagonist.
